Kenkia Basket #2
Kenkia is a word in Gurune, the local language of the Gurunsi who live in and around Bolgatanga in the Upper East region of Ghana. Kenkia is a large gourd that was traditionally used to carry water.
A masterpiece of weaving, this bulbous basket is difficult to make despite its simple design. It takes a skilled craftsman to master the proportions so elegantly.

Water does not harm the basket. In fact, you can reshape the basket by submerging it completely in water and letting it dry in the sun. Even small shipping dents can be fixed this way.
