This traditional, old coat protected fishermen and peasants when working in the wet and rainy fields in South China. It is made from woven palm and coconut fibers, several layers thick. The coat comes in two parts: the upper part, the cape, and the attached lower part, the apron.
This kind of coat has been used for hundreds of years in China and was still in use during the first half of the 20th century.
