Original salt blocks from Taoudenni in northern Mali. The rectangular slabs are traditionally extracted by hand from former salt deposits in the Sahara and cut into transportable shapes.
Each block is made of natural rock salt and features individual variations in tone ranging from white and gray to warm mineral inclusions. Irregular edges, surface fractures, and natural textures are characteristic and reflect the raw nature of the material.
The rope binding references the historic transport of salt slabs along trans-Saharan trade routes. Each piece is unique.
