Khwe Basket #9
Tax included (EU). Shipping calculated at checkout
"San" is a collective name for the indigenous hunter-gatherer groups that are considered the first nations of southern Africa.
These beautiful collecting baskets of the Khwe San people of Northern Namibia were traditionally used for collecting wild fruits, nuts and edible tubers.
They are rare because the baskets are only produced seasonally when the raw material, palm, is available. The varied colors are extracted from the roots, leaves and bark of local plants.
A not-for-profit social enterprise in Namibia, founded more than 30 years ago, has made a difference to the lives of thousands of Namibians – artisans, artists and their families. Sustainable livelihoods are being supported and developed by selling the baskets.
