Formed by hand and shaped by use, these old mini loam baskets from rural China embody a quiet, utilitarian beauty. Made from woven reed and coated in natural loam, they were once essential tools in everyday village life — simple, strong, and made to serve.

Their construction reflects both practical ingenuity and resourcefulness: The woven reed base provided flexibility and strength. And the loam (a clay and soil mixture) coating made them more durable, semi-waterproof, and suitable for holding finer materials like rice, flour, or seeds without spilling through the weave.

Today, their weathered surfaces and sculptural silhouettes speak of time and authenticity. Each basket carries subtle variations in tone and form, revealing the charm of imperfection and the soul of true craftsmanship.
