Antique Guangdong wine pot with Chinese character mark, late 19th century.
Glazed earthenware from Guangdong Province, China, dating to around 1880. Pots of this type were traditionally used for storing and transporting rice wine and other fermented liquids.
A particularly old example with a full rounded body, small opening, and four intact carrying loops around the shoulder. Its most distinctive detail is the original Chinese character mark set into the glaze, most likely identifying the producer or merchant.
The heavily worn glaze, irregular surface, and visible traces of long use underline the age of the piece. The surviving character mark makes each vessel especially individual and gives a direct reference to its original use.

The story behind the vessel:
The hand-painted inscription reads 吉祥如意 (jí xiáng rú yì), a traditional Chinese wish for good fortune and the fulfillment of one’s wishes.
