These stools originate from the traditional craftsmanship of the Senufo people in Northern Côte d’Ivoire. Each piece is carved from a single block of hardwood by skilled artisans who have passed down their knowledge through generations.

The design is clear and timeless: a gently curved seat resting on four solid legs. The dark finish is achieved through natural smoking and polishing, giving the wood a deep, warm tone that ranges from dark brown to almost black. Every stool carries its own individuality – shaped by hand, material, and subtle traces of time.

Whether displayed alone or as a pair, these stools bring a quiet authenticity to contemporary interiors – strong in presence, yet understated in form.

The story behind:

The Senufo are among West Africa’s most renowned artisan communities, living across northern Côte d’Ivoire as well as parts of Mali and Burkina Faso. Their carved objects – masks, figures, and stools – are deeply rooted in the social and spiritual fabric of their culture.

For the Senufo, a stool is more than a functional object: it symbolizes dignity, wisdom, and connection. Traditionally, it serves as the personal seat of an elder or spiritual leader, representing grounding and continuity within the community.

The distinctive form has remained unchanged for centuries – organic, balanced, and carved from a single piece of wood. The dark patina, created through smoke and age, lends each stool depth and calmness – a quiet reflection of enduring craftsmanship.
