Ein wunderschönes Dekorationsstück ist dieses Teil eines einstigen hölzernen Charkha Spinnrads, montiert auf einem Ständer. Das Rad diente zum Spinnen von Baumwollfasern.
Im 20. Jahrhundert wurde die Charkha zum Symbol Ghandis Unabhängigkeitsbewegung in Indien. Er nutzte die Charkha als Werkzeug zur Emanzipation des indischen Volkes gegen die britischen Kolonisatoren. Die arme Bevölkerung erhielt so die Möglichkeit, mit kleinen Mitteln Baumwolle zu spinnen und damit ihre finanzielle Autonomie wiederzugewinnen.
