old peasant's coat China #7
Taxes included (EU). Shipping calculated at checkout
Traditional peasant's coat from Southern China, dated to around 1900.
Made from woven palm fibers, these coats were used by farmers and fishermen as protection against wind and heavy rain. The layered construction combines a cape-like upper section with a longer apron below.
This piece has an uncommon forward-folding form, creating a more three-dimensional silhouette than flatter coats. The surface shows dark patina, worn fibers, open areas, and irregular edges from age and use.
Displayed on the wall, it reads as a textile object with visible material structure and historic function.
